Keeping Routes Reliable
Test prep shouldn’t be based on guesswork. Even small changes - a new stop sign, roadworks, or a speed limit adjustment - can catch you off guard.
Here’s how we keep our routes current:
Real-world checks - We capture examiner routes through GPS so you can follow the same paths on test day.
Your input matters - Driver and examiner feedback helps us paint an accurate picture.
Fast updates - Once a change is confirmed, the route is updated to the latest version.
The result? You’ll take your Wyoming driving test knowing the roads, and feeling confident.

Learning to Drive in Wyoming
1. Start with a Learner’s Permit
How old can you start?
At 15 years old, you are eligible to apply for your instruction (learner’s) permit.
The 2 types of permit
Regular Learner’s Permit: For minors aged 15-16 wanting to begin their learner journey.
Restricted Learner’s Permit (“hardship permit”): For younger students (14-15) who meet special conditions such as living far from school or having a job.
Permit requirements
You’ll need to:
Appear in person at your nearest Wyoming exam station.
Pass a vision screening.
Pass a written knowledge test that covers all traffic rules and sign meanings etc.
Provide suitable ID, proof of WY residence, and other required documents.
If you’re under 18, your parent or guardian will need to sign your application.
How long before you can progress?
You need to hold your permit for at least 10 days before you can apply for your intermediate license.
2. Practice Driving & Driver Education
Supervised driving
While you have either a permit or intermediate permit, you must practice your driving with a licensed adult alongside you.
Required hours
You’ll need to log 50 hours of driving practice, 10 of which need to be during the night.
Driver education / training
Wyoming encourages and in some cases requires driver education. If you complete an approved driver education course, there is a chance you can waive your road test.
3. Intermediate Permit / Restricted License
Once you’ve met the permit, practice, and where applicable driver ed requirements:
You can move on to an intermediate permit or restricted license - if you’ve held your learner permit the minimum required time and have completed the supervised driving requirements listed above.
Updated rules:
You could be limited as to when you can drive (no driving between 11:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m.) unless supervised or for specific reasons like school or work.
There is a limit to the number of under-18 passengers who are not family that you can carry, unless a licensed adult is present.
4. Full, Unrestricted License
You become eligible for a full (unrestricted) license when you turn 17, provided you’ve met all the previous requirements.
When you qualify, all restrictions are lifted - so you can drive anytime and carry passengers without any limitations
5. Useful Tips & Advice
Read the Wyoming Driver’s Manual - it’s a goldmine of information and most test questions come directly from it.
Practice early and in many conditions - try rural roads, highways, nighttime, and city driving in various weather conditions to become a competent all-round driver.
Stay consistent - don’t wait long periods… spread your driving practice over weeks or months.
Look after your paperwork - keep your permit, proof of supervised hours, driver ed certificate, etc. safe and ready to present.
Check test waiver opportunities - if you complete the driver education, check whether you can skip the road test.
