Oregon Driving Test Information & Resources
Hands-Free Driving
All drivers in Oregon are prohibited from using handheld mobile devices while driving, including texting, talking, or simply holding a phone. Law enforcement will stop and cite drivers solely for this infraction.
Zero Tolerance for Underage Drinking and Driving
There is a zero-tolerance policy for drivers under 21 years old. If there is any detectable blood alcohol content (BAC) it can result in your license being suspended along with other penalties. If you are 21 or over, a BAC of 0.08% or higher is considered legally impaired.
Open Containers
Unlike some other states, it's illegal to have an open container of alcohol in any seating area of a vehicle in Oregon. If you have any open containers, they must be stored in the trunk or an area that cannot be accessed by drivers or passengers.
School Zone Speed Limits
In school zones with speed limits of 30 mph or less, drivers are required to reduce their speed to 20 mph during designated times, typically on weekdays from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. There may be flashing lights indicating when the reduced speed limit is in effect.
Terwilliger Curves
The Terwilliger Curves on I-5 in Portland are known for their sharp turns and high accident rates. All drivers, especially new drivers should exercise caution, keep to the speed limits and leave safe distances between vehicles.
License Renewal for Older Drivers
Driver licenses in OR are renewed every eight years. Starting at age 50, drivers must also pass a vision screening at each renewal to ensure they can still operate a vehicle safely.
