What to Know Before You Go to the DMV

The qualifications for taking the DMV Practical Test vary based on where you live. Although the most common qualifying age is 16, there are some states that will allow you to take the test when you are just 14 years and 3 months old. On the opposite end of the spectrum, there are also states that won’t allow you to take the test until you’re 17.

If you’re under 18, you will typically be required to complete a driver’s ed course before you can take the test. Usually, you can find this course offered at a high school or a dedicated driving school. Some states also allow parent-taught driver’s education.

In addition to being present for the lecture portion of these classes, you’ll also have to get some real-world driving experience with an instructor. Often, you can get this done with the same person who taught you driver’s ed. Once again, different states have different requirements for the number of hours you should spend on driving practice. If you’re over 18 and applying for your license for the first time, you may still need to take a driver’s education course depending on where you live.

When you go to take your local DMV practical test, you’ll need your Social Security card as well as your birth certificate. If you were required to take driver’s ed, you should also bring a document proving you’ve completed (and passed) the course. You’ll have to pass a vision test before you begin taking the actual exam, so wear your contacts or glasses if needed.

Taking Your Written Exam

The written portion of the driving test is completely multiple choice. Nowadays, many testing centers will give you the questions on a computer, which will instantly tell you whether you’ve responded correctly or incorrectly to a question. You may have anywhere from 25 to 50 questions depending on your state regulations. Every question has only one correct answer. To find out how many questions you can expect on your test and how many you must answer correctly to pass, check out your local DMV website.

Although your questions will be randomly selected from a larger bank of questions, there are several topics you can expect for your test to cover. You should be familiar with traffic signs and signals and what they mean. You should have a good understanding of speed limits based on school zones, residential areas, and more.

Some of the questions will cover vehicle safety and how you should respond to potentially dangerous situations on the road. You should expect some questions related to how alcohol and drugs impact someone’s ability to drive. Lastly, it’s important to know how you should respond to other automobiles, motorcyclists and bikers, pedestrians, and emergency vehicles. When you know all these topics, you will be a safe, skilled driver who’s prepared for just about anything on the road!

Preparing to Pass with Practice Quizzes.

Anxiety can be one of your greatest enemies when you’re about to take the DMV test. One of the best ways you can combat it is with preparation!

How it Works.

It all begins with an idea. Maybe you want to launch a business. Maybe you

You should always pick up a copy of your state DMV manual and study it thoroughly. But don’t rely on studying the book alone. Supplement your studying by putting your knowledge into practice. It’s usually pretty easy to find practice questions and quizzes online when you’re preparing for your DMV written test.

It’s not as easy to prepare for actually driving the DMV test. You can practice driving on your own. But since you don’t know the route you’ll be taking, you won’t know what kinds of road situations you’ll encounter during your test. Luckily, there’s an easy option: DMV driving test routes! With this solution, you will have easy access to all the possible routes the DMV will take you on based on your local location.
